Safety

Wear your Protective Gear!!!

It Could Save Your Life.

I was riding back from Macon Tuesday afternoon Sep 23, 2008.   I got off I75 and rode to the top of the ramp in Byron, Ga.  The light was red and there was traffic so I stopped.  I was sitting there with my right front on the brake and my left foot holding the bike up. The right turn signal and my modulated brake lights were flashing.  I caught a glimpse of the lady in my rear view just as she hit me.  The bike was flipped on its right side and then it slid about 5 ft.  The roll bar on the back left a mark in the pavement.  I was thrown off into the grass on the side of the road.  Thank goodness for full armor and my helmet.  The bike has about $1,500 or so in damage but it is rideable.

Her first words were I didn’t see you are you ok.  I got the idea she wanted me to say all was ok so she could get out of Dodge quickly.  Instead I told her she had better not move because she had done major damage to my bike and I was calling the police.   I asked a passer by to make the call.  It turns out that an officer in an unmarked car witnessed the whole thing.  She was cited.  My bike checked out mechanically and all lights worked so I am able to ride it home.

I had 8,000 accident free miles.  Now it starts all over.

You train and practice safety and then something like this happens that isn’t your fault and you can’t do anything to avoid it. But you can protect yourself.  The bottom line is wear your armor at all times.  You never know when it just may save you.
